Aunque en el Mundial de Brasil de 1962 algunos grupos hicieron composiciones referentes al mundial, éstas no fueron oficiales. Desde 1966, la FIFA no solo invierte energía y dinero en la organización del Mundial en una determinada sede, sino que también se preocupa por la interpretación, la letra, el ritmo, el video y la presentación de la canción oficial del Mundial.

El Mundial de Alemania en 1974 tuvo dos canciones que sonaron principalmente en europa: La World Cup Fanfare y Fussball Ist Unser Leben; ambas no tuvieron la difusión suficiente por lo que existe pocos registros de dichas melodias.

Para el Mundial de Argentina en 1978, la FIFA encargó a Ennio Morricone y su orquesta la creación de la canción oficial del mundial, que a parte de ser cantada en español tuvo un ritmo de marcha, alegre y pegajoso.

El año 1982 en el Mundial de España, la canción fue encomendada a un popular cantaautor: Pepe de La Rosa, que gustó con "La Sevillanas".

¡ México 86, México 86! es imposible no memorizar esta canción y además relacionarla con las imágenes de Diego Armando Maradona alzando el trofeo como campeón, ya que, aparte de ser repetitiva tenia un coro de voces femeninas muy fáciles de recordar.

La canción del Mundial de Italia 90 tuvo un toque mágico: tenia un ritmo melódico, casi de opera e interpretada a duo por Gianna Nannini y Edoardo Bennato. Esta canción también tuvo un toque emotivo: Italia perdió con Alemania la final y su figura Roberto Baggio falló un penal.

Después de tres mundiales vividos en idioma español, la fiesta del fútbol volvia al idioma inglés en el Mundial de Estados Unidos el año 1994.El turno para cantar la canción ofical del Mundial correspondió al estadounidense Daryl Hall y Sound of Blackness con la canción Gloryland.

Hasta esa Copa del Mundo, los intérpretes eran oriundos del país sede.

Cuatro años después, el puertorriqueño Ricky Martin impulsó aún más la música en los mundiales con la Copa de la vida, que escribió Robi Draco Rosa, su ex compañero en el grupo Menudo.Tuvo más impulso por la vitalidad y baile que impuso, aunque no fue tan solemne, tuvo un ritmo contagioso que hasta hoy se sigue recordando.

La decisión de optar por estrellas internacionales continuó en el Mundial de Corea del Sur y Japón en 2002, cuando la estadounidense Anastacia interpretó 'Boom'.

En Alemania 2006, el turno fue para 'The Time of Our Lives', con Toni Braxton y el cuarteto Il Divo.

La actual canción oficial es Waka waka para Sudáfrica 2010 cantada por la colombiana "Shakira" y que consta en el disco ¡Listen up! The official 2010 FIFA World Cup.

No obstante, existen canciones que no son las oficiales del torneo, pero que ‘pegan’ mucho. Una de ellas es Waving flag, que interpreta el somalí K’naan en su versión en inglés y el español David Bisbal, en castellano.

En Cochabamba, según un sondeo realizado a varios ciudadanos, se empezó a tomar más atención de las canciones que presenta la FIFA luego de la interpretación de Ricky Martin para el Mundial de Francia el año 1998 con "La copa de la vida".

"esa canción hizo saber al mundo que había una canción oficial para el mundial, además que tenía un ritmo muy pegajoso, " explicó Jose Luis, un joven seguidor de los mundiales.

El Mundial de Sudáfrica de este año, no solo inauguró un nuevo continente sino que también aportó con la novedad de tener mayor presencia latina entre sus intérpretes y además fue incluída en un concierto inaugural .

"Weavin Flag es más bonita que la canción de Shakira" ,"creo que ambas tiene su particularidad" " la canción del africano es más original" expresaron algunos de los jóvenes cochabambinos consultados sobre la canción del Mundial.

La música al igual que el fútbol tienen trascendencia mundial y ambas son capaces de derribar barreras de todo tipo. El Mundial de 2014 toca en Brasil y la música, la mascota, el logotipo, el balón, las camisetas, los equipos y la hinchada son un "combo" de cosas y emoiones que el mundo espera de la fiesta del fútbol

A su vez la canción alcanzó el puesto número uno en los rankings de más de 15 países, entre ellos, Argentina. La canción -que también será cantada por Shakira en la ceremonia de clausura antes de la final del Mundial- es el sencillo más vendido en plataformas digitales y celulares en prácticamente todos los países donde está a la venta.

Por su lado, el video oficial de "Waka Waka" es un fenómeno en Internet y ya con más de 15 millones de visitas en YouTube (con un promedio de 2 millones de reproducciones diarias).

El deporte rey es pasión, es arte, por lo que la música no puede estar desprendida de este. A través de una canción se despiertan sentimientos, gratos para los que cargan con los laureles y desapacibles para los que tienen que regresar a su país con las manos vacías.

Todo lo que se vive dentro y fuera del engramado sirve de inspiración para los artistas. Un gol, la hinchada, una gambeta, una pared o hermosas jugadas que acarician el esférico, son motivos nobles para crear una obra maestra.
Lamentablemente para este Mundial Sudáfrica 2010 no sucedió esto. La designación del tema (cuesta llamarlo himno) “Waka Waka This Time For Africa” de Shakira... ah! y de un grupo sudafricano llamado Freshlyground, fue una pifia de la FIFA.

El talento de Shakira no se cuestiona, pero la canción sí porque carece de emotividad e identidad con el fútbol. Esta representa un triste papel si se compara con clásicos pasados como “Un State Italiana” y “La Copa de la Vida”. Pero las caderas de la neogranadina dejaron sordomudos y atolondrados a Joseph Blatter y compañía. Los directivos del fútbol mundial aplicaron el sentido de la vista mas no el de la audición.

Shakira y su canción también trajeron la polémica y las especulaciones de plagio. El estribillo de “waka waka” que fue popularizado en los años 90 por las merengueras Chicas Del Can, no pertenece al compositor Wilfrido Vargas, sino al grupo camerunés Zangalewa que al final ha sido el mejor parado en este asunto, tanto así que luego de haber permanecido años sin tocar, aprovechó la promoción para salir de nuevo a los escenarios.

Además la cantante colombiana marcará otro gol consecutivo al cantar en la ceremonia inaugural previa al inicio del Mundial Sudáfrica 2010. En Alemania 2006 hizo lo propio con “Hips Dont Lie”, pero en la final.

En cambio el tema ‘Waving Flag’ del cantante somalí K’Naan y que en español también es interpretado por David Bisbal, tiene más arraigo por el futbolero. De hecho se pensó que sería la canción oficial pero en realidad fue el cántico de la gira de la Copa FIFA auspiciada por Coca Cola.

Los himnos memorables

Han pasado 20 años desde que Gianna Nannini y Edoardo Benato presentaron "Un State Italiana", el himno más conmovedor que se ha compuesto para una cita mundialista.
Escucharla de nuevo pone la piel de gallina. Parte de la letra del tema que representó a Italia 90 dice: “Tal vez no será una canción que pueda cambiar las reglas del juego, pero quiero vivir así esta aventura sin fronteras y con el corazón en la garganta”.

En la memoria de muchos está aquella escena del público "tifosi" coreando la canción que sonó por los parlantes del estadio San Paolo de Nápoles, momentos antes del partido semifinal entre Italia y Argentina.
"Bajo el cielo de un verano italiano" cayeron lágrimas "azzurri" cuando los comandados por Maradona, desplazaron al equipo anfitrión en la tanda de penales. En la final los rioplatenses sucumbieron 1-0 ante los germanos. Ocho años después sonaba "La Copa de la Vida" de Francia 1998, una de las piezas más pegajosas y coreadas por seguidores y no hinchas del balompié.

La canción original de Robi Draco Rosa y Desmond Child puso a bailar a todo el mundo. Además fue el trampolín hacia la internacionalización de su intérprete, el boricua Ricky Martin. Francia logró su primera y única Copa Mundial al golear 3-0 a un irreconocible Brasil.

Otras menos recordadas pero superiores al “waka waka” fueron “Boom” de Anastacia y la sospechosa “Que el fútbol no pare” de Patricia Manterola en Korea-Japón 2002. Para Alemania 2006 se “escuchó” la poco difundida “The Time Of Our Lives” (El momento de nuestras vidas) interpretada por el cuarteto lírico-pop Il Divo y la estadounidense Toni Braxton.

Two-and-a-half years after launch, iPhone's sheen still shines, thanks to legions of loyalists and consistently superior user experience. It ranked No. 1 in Brand Keys' annual loyalty survey this year, while 74% of iPhone owners said they were very satisfied with the device, compared to 43% of BlackBerry owners.

The "There's an App for That" campaign showed the genius of the iPhone, which has transformed how consumers perceive and use their phone--and how the industry markets itself. The iPhone App Store boasts 100,000 apps, 10 times more than Android, its nearest competitor.

The iPhone will continue to be the category favorite, helped by a $99 price tag on the older 3G model. And according to the Changewave survey, 36% of near-term smartphone buyers say they'll opt for one, compared to 27% who picked the BlackBerry and 8% who chose Palm.

Motorola Droid Smartphones By Verizon Wireless Retail Price $200

The Droid packs more than the iPhone, thanks to features like a physical keyboard, free turn-by-turn GPS and a camera with built-in flash. The phone also offers tight integration with Google services, including voice activated search. The thumbs-up reviews have reinforced Verizon's positioning of the Droid as a viable iPhone killer.

Droid will be Verizon's biggest product launch yet, eclipsing last year's BlackBerry Storm rollout, estimated at north of $100 million. Droid should help stem Verizon's customer losses to AT&T's iPhone. It's also the first Android phone to seriously challenge the iPhone and the Android open operating system, which should overtake the proprietary iPhone platform in a few years. The Droid] will do really well, it's one of the most solid smartphones to date.

Blackberry Strom2 Smartphones By Verizon Wireless Retail Prices $180

The follow-up to last year's widely hyped but buggy BlackBerry Storm lives in the shadow of the Droid, which is hogging both the spotlight and Verizon's marketing dollars. Still, the Storm2 is drawing mostly positive reviews, getting points for WiFi support, voice-dialing and an improved touchscreen.

Verizon launched the Storm2 late last month with little fanfare. First aired during Game 1 of the World Series on Fox, the standalone, "lightning really does strike twice" TV spot will run for about two weeks, eventually becoming part of the broader device line-up in Verizon's holiday push.

Decent sales, but don't expect a hit, analysts say. The consensus is that BlackBerry maker Research in Motion needs to gear up if it wants to compete in the multimedia smartphone space. They're operating on a technology base that has few advantages now, it was designed in an era when e-mail was the only important mobile application.

Palm PIXI Pre Smartphones By Sprint Retail Price $99, PRE: $150

Hits shelves in less than a week, and like the Pre, comes with a touchscreen, full keyboard, and Palm's new operating system. It will also be lighter with a smaller screen. The excitement has waned since the Pre's June launch, which coincided with Apple's new iPhone announcement. Palm won't talk sales so far but analysts estimate 500,000.

Palm declined to discuss the handset's marketing, but with a campaign that launched at New York Fashion Week, its small form factor its name and the $99 price tag, it's meant to entice smartphone newbies and females. Sprint will continue to push the Pre through the holidays but the new age, esoteric TV ads, panned as "weird" and "creepy," haven't connected with consumers.

Pixi's forerunner, the Centro, sold reasonably. The $99 price point should also up its appeal. PRE: While it will keep some Sprint customers in the fold, it won't be a share-stealing, magnet.

Motorola Cliq Smartphones By T-Mobile Retail Price $200

Motorola made this phone for the carrier that claims to have the most texters worldwide. Its main calling card is Motoblur, a social-networking overlay that aggregates content from users' social networks and lets people update their status from a homescreen widget. But it's been pegged as a device for teenagers, making the $200 pricetag perplexing. Another negative? It doesn't run on the latest Android software.

In October, Motorola unveiled a campaign for the "first phone with social skills," comically portraying the chaos of social networking, before the Cliq comes to the rescue and streamlines the process. Should do well within T-Mobile's base. Motoblur is really impressive and caters perfectly to T-Mobile's young demographic."

HTC Hero Smartphones By Sprint Retail Price $180

The Hero wins on hardware, and a customizable, proprietary user interface called HTC Sense. The third Android device to hit the market, reviews called it the most solid Android phone to date. But that billing was short-lived; weeks later, Droid emerged and took its bow as the best Android device.

HTC two weeks ago launched its inaugural branding campaign, showcasing a series of handsets, including the Hero, its flagship device. Expect message bombardment: the handset maker expects the average adult to see its advertising roughly 37 times through year-end, compared to a typical average of three times for a campaign of a similar duration. The "You" campaign promotes the idea of customization and personalization. "A phone that gets you" is the tagline.

Hero was Sprint's top-selling device, according to Avian Securities' October store survey, boding well for continuing momentum into the holidays. Smartphones Holiday Gifts
